Earth
Compare Roadster speed with Earth's rotation, distance and gravity.
PLAY NOW βINDEPENDENT PHYSICS EXPERIENCE
Can a Roadster beat the rotational speed of our planet?
CHALLENGE 01
Choose a latitude and test your simulated Roadster speed against Earth's rotational speed.
At the equator, Earth's surface is moving faster than the simulated Roadster.
YOUR MISSION
Earth's surface doesn't rotate at the same speed everywhere. Move toward the poles and the rotational speed decreases. Experiment with different latitudes and see what happens.

COMING NEXTTHE SCIENCE
Earth rotates once relative to the stars in approximately 23 hours, 56 minutes and 4 seconds. The distance traveled by a point on Earth's surface depends on its latitude.
This website is an educational simulation. The Roadster speed slider is a user-controlled input and should not be interpreted as an official Tesla specification.
ROADSTER VS EARTH
At the equator, Earth's surface moves at roughly 1,670 kilometres per hour relative to Earth's rotational axis. The value decreases as latitude increases.
Earth completes one rotation in approximately the same amount of time everywhere, but locations away from the equator travel around a smaller circular path. As a result, their surface speed is lower.
That depends on what is being compared and where the comparison is made. This simulator lets you experiment with different latitudes and a user-selected vehicle speed.
No. Roadster vs Earth is an independent educational and entertainment project and is not affiliated with Tesla, Inc.
